One of the richest towns in South Carolina is located in Horry County.
Briarcliffe Acres is a town halfway between Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach and ranks among the top 10 richest cities and towns in the state.
With a population of 479 people, its mean household income is $134,375, according to the U.S. Census’ 2022 American Community Survey.
The town, located near the ocean, has a private beach and homes sell from $600,000 to upward of $2.5 million. The median home price is nearly $700,000 according to Zillow.
It was listed as the fourth richest city in 2024 by MSN.com, and No. 6 by Forbes in 2023.
On both lists, Kiawah Island was listed as the No. 1 richest city with a median household income of $366,000 and a median home price of $1.4 million. No. 2 was Sullivan’s Island.
The Forbes list also had neighboring Pawleys Island among its top richest cities. The Georgetown County community has a median household income of $130,000 and a median home price of $1.2 million.
The Forbes list is based on a combination of four factors, including median household income, mean household income, median home value, and median property taxes paid.
