A firefighter who “effectively runs the entire fire response” of a Wheatbelt town is up for the highest individual honour a WA bushfire service volunteer can receive.
Anthony “Morty” Mort, who has served Cuballing as a volunteer firefighter for more than 25 years, is one of three WA fireys up for the WA Fire and Emergency Services Murray Lang Bush Fire Service Award, which recognises a volunteer who has gone “above and beyond”.
