A teenager is in a critical condition and three others have been injured after a car veered off a road and into a burn.

The grey Ford Ka was travelling west on the A721 towards Carluke, South Lanarkshire, when it left the carriageway near to Crawfordwalls Bridge and came to rest partially submerged in the water at around 10.20pm on Monday.

Emergency crews attended and a 17-year-old male youth was airlifted to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where medical staff describe his condition as critical but stable.

A 19-year-old man was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and two men aged 18 and 19 were taken to University Hospital Wishaw.
