MANITOWOC – Stacy Rendon praises the Lakeshore area’s recovery homes, but says there’s a need for faith-based accommodations as well.

Stacy and her husband Raul run a ministry called ZION, or Zealous Individuals Off Narcotics. It’s part of the nonprofit Creating4Jesus Inc. The couple’s goal is to raise funds to open a Christ-centered recovery home, in addition to raising funds for other local needs.

Stacy and Raul began doing street ministry about six years ago, she said.

“My husband was an addict 15 years ago,” Stacy said. “He got pulled out thanks to God. Now, he’s eight years clean. We started doing street ministry, bringing food to addicts or the homeless, to show them they are loved and are not forgotten.”

ZION also holds weekly “Disciples of Hope” meetings at the RoseThorn Coummunity Church, 1015 S. 11th St. Volunteers serve a meal and take time to pray and help those struggling with addiction to find purpose in life and to support them.

Stacy said ZION also offer to pay to send and support people at Christian recovery homes in nearby communities until the nonprofit can raise the funds to build one in Manitowoc.

“The recovery homes we have are amazing, but we know there is a need and desire for this type of home in our area,” she said. “We know there is a need because we see people coming to our ZION meetings from other homes. This will be giving them that missing piece.”

The ministry will host the ZION Rally fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 22 at Washington Park, 1115 Washington St., in downtown Manitowoc. The event will include music, bands and artists, as well as food trucks. The event is free, but donations will be accepted.
