Kill trailer launch: Karan Johar talks about ‘India’s most violent film’: “Not trying to promote bloodshed. The violence in the film is nothing short of a form of art”

Karan Johar said, “Without naming any other film, I’d like to mention that there are many films made in this genre in the West, South Korea, China, etc, like Train To Busan, John Wick series, etc. In these films, action is an art form. Through Kill, we are not trying to promote violence and bloodshed. We just want to show the viewers that the manner in which violence is depicted, it is nothing short of a form of art.”

Karan Johar continued, “There’s a certain choreography of the action, aided by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s expertise writing. The narrative unfolds in a claustrophobic space in a narrow train compartment. We never discussed whether our action is realistic or over the top or whether we are copying anyone. We wanted to show for the first time that such choreographed artistic form of action and violence is possible in Indian cinema. That was the idea – to do something different.”

He further stated, “Many action films are made, some are mounted on huge budgets. But when there’s a lot of thought goes in the action and there’s no VFX, we are hopeful that the audience appreciates it.”

A memorable moment of the event was when Lakshya, the lead actor, confessed that he can’t believe that his debut film is finally releasing and that someone should pinch him. At this point, Karan actually pinched him on his hand, and it raised a lot of laughs.

Kill releases in cinemas on July 5.
