A recent statement by actor Ameesha Patel has ignited discussions surrounding the making of the blockbuster film Gadar 2. The film, starring Sunny Deol, was a massive blockbuster in 2023. The sequel was released in cinemas after 20 years. Ameesha Patel has stirred controversy by claiming that she and co-star, Sunny Deol, played the roles of “semi-ghost directors” in the making of Gadar 2. Directed by Anil Sharma, the film, which followed the monumental success of its predecessor, faced challenges that extended beyond the script and onto the sets themselves.

In a candid interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ameesha Patel disclosed that numerous corrections and alterations were made to the film, spearheaded by herself and Sunny Deol. These modifications, she asserts, were essential to steer the film away from a direction that they found unsatisfactory. Recounting a journey fraught with creative disagreements, Patel revealed that both she and Deol invested substantial efforts in editing, reshooting, and refining various aspects of the film. She said, “There were a lot of corrections made in Gadar 2 by Sunny and me to make it what it was because it was being steered in a direction that we were unhappy with. We did a lot of reshoots for it and a lot of editing on our part.”
“Sunny and me were almost like semi-ghost directors on that,” Ameesha Patel remarked, highlighting the extent of their involvement in shaping the narrative, scenes, songs, and even choreography.
However, beneath the surface of creative collaboration lay what Patel describes as a “hidden agenda” harbored by director Anil Sharma. She added, “There was another hidden agenda that was with Mr. Anil Sharma. He was deviating from making Gadar.”
Acknowledging the pivotal role played by her business partner, Kunal Goomer, Patel credited him with rescuing the film from potential downfall. Goomer’s intervention, she claimed, was instrumental in realigning the trajectory of Gadar 2 and salvaging it from what could have been a disastrous outcome. “Kunal had to alert Sunny Deol that these things have gone wrong, so when you go for your action schedule, please correct certain things,” she said.
Gadar 2 collected Rs. 525.45 crores at the box office in India.
