Every time I come, I am asked a question about Virat Kohli: Batting coach Rathour – MASHAHER

India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour said he expected a question about Virat Kohli’s batting form when he was addressing the press on Saturday in Florida. Rathour was speaking at the press conference after India’s final Group A game against Canada was washed out due to rain in Lauderhill.

Vikram Rathour said he loved the questions about Virat Kohli’s form, stressing that the team management is not concerned at all about the superstar batter’s lean run of scores in the T20 World Cup.

“I love it when every time I come there is a question about Virat Kohli, whether he is doing well or not. No concern at all, no concern at all,” Vikram Rathour said on Saturday.

India’s move to have Virat Kohli open the batting with Rohit Sharma has not worked well. The former captain, who was India’s leading run-getter at the T20 World Cup in 2022, has managed just 5 runs from 3 matches so far. Kohli was dismissed for 1 against Ireland, for 4 against Pakistan and a golden duck against USA — all of them coming on a pitch that was a nightmare for batters at the Nassau County Cricket Ground in New York.

VIRAT KOHLI IS HUNGRIER: VIKRAM RATHOUR

Virat Kohli and the rest of the Indian batters would have loved to have a hit in Lauderhill on Saturday before they head to the West Indies for the Super 8s stage. However, a wet outfield hampered their plans after the game against Canada was washed out.

Vikram Rathour said Kohli has been batting well at the nets and that a ‘hungrier’ version of the star batter will only help the team in the Super 8s stage.

“He has been batting superbly from the tournament that he came from. A couple of dismissals here don’t change anything, he is batting really well.

“Actually, it’s good that he is a little hungrier, he is really keen to do well and really switched on. It’s a good space to be as a batsman, I think. Looking forward to some good games and watched some good innings from him,” he added.

India are likely to persist with Virat Kohli at the top of the batting order in the Super 8s despite his surprisingly lack of big runs in T20 World Cup.

India will take on Afghanistan in the first of their three Super 8s matches on June 20 in Barbados.
