The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Bihar is actively investigating the alleged NEET paper leak that took place during the exam on May 5. Notices have now been sent to nine NEET candidates, summoning them to the EOU office for questioning.
An eight-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) had taken over the probe from the Patna police month.
During the investigation, police found the roll codes of 13 candidates linked to a solver gang, four of whom were arrested during the initial stages of the probe. The EOU sought additional information about the remaining nine candidates from the NTA, which provided the admit cards, mobile numbers, and addresses of the candidates.
These candidates, all from different districts of Bihar, have been called for questioning along with their parents.
The questioning aims to uncover the extent of the candidates’ involvement with the solver gang and whether they were made to memorise the question paper before the exam.
The EOU is determined to establish the facts and ensure that any malpractice is addressed promptly.
WHAT THE EDUCATION MINISTER HAD TO SAY
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the NEET paper leak allegations, stating that issues were reported at only six centres out of approximately 4,500 nationwide.
He firmly denied the occurrence of a paper leak but assured that “no one will be spared” if the allegations are proven true. Pradhan emphasised the government’s commitment to protecting the interests of NEET examinees and ensuring the examination’s integrity.
He mentioned that “every aspect is being looked into,” and accountability will be fixed, including that of the National Testing Agency (NTA), if any lapses are found.
Pradhan reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring fairness and equity for NEET students.
He stated, “The government is committed to protecting the interests of NEET examinees. Concerns of students will be addressed with fairness and equity. Facts related to NEET are in cognizance of the Supreme Court.”
He also mentioned that the counselling process would commence soon to ensure a smooth transition for the students.
