T20 World Cup 2024: Trent Boult reflects on New Zealand’s disappointing T20 World Cup, says ‘Hard one to take’ – MASHAHER

Trent Boult said that getting knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2024 has been a tough pill to swallow for New Zealand. On Saturday, June 15, the Kiwis put in a strong performance after beating Brian Masaba’s Uganda by 9 wickets at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. Although they won the game, it was inconsequential with the Kiwis already out of the competition.

Boult bowled his heart out as he got the wickets of Simon Ssesazi and Robinson Obuya to finish with figures of 4-1-7-2. On the back of his spell, New Zealand bowled their opposition out for 40 in 18.4 overs. Thereafter, Devon Conway’s unbeaten 22 helped the Kiwis chase down the target with 88 balls left in their innings.

NZ vs UGA: Highlights

“Yeah definitely not the start we wanted in the tournament. Yeah, a hard one to take but yeah, we had a job to do this afternoon and I thought the boys did that very nicely. Once again just an opportunity to represent the country in the way we know how to do, always a lot of pride wearing the fern on our chest and yeah T20 cricket, international cricket has to be played with a lot of pride so looking forward to another good occasion,” Boult said in the post-match press conference.

‘Fond memories’

Boult also talked about the memories he has shared with Tim Southee while playing for New Zealand. Southee was outstanding against Uganda after he won the Player of the Match award following his figures of 4-1-4-3.

“Yeah, I look at it with very fond memories. We bowled a lot of overs together. I know the partnership very well, and obviously a very good friend on and off the ground. So yeah, nice to wind back the clock a little bit and see a bit of swing bowling at the top. So yeah, like I said, some great memories, and hopefully a couple more still to come,” Boult added.

New Zealand’s last and final league game is against Assad Vala’s Papua New Guinea on Monday, June 17.
