Euro 2024: Jude Bellingham guides England to narrow 1-0 victory against Serbia – MASHAHER


England began its Euro 2024 campaign with a 1-0 win against Serbia in the Group C clash at the Arena AufSchalke on Sunday.

UEFA Champions League winner Jude Bellingham scored the winner in the 13th minute with a powerful header right in front of goal, after meeting a Bukayo Saka cross.

Serbia came close to scoring an equalizer through Aleksander Mitrovic who fired his shot wide of the right post after capitalising on a mistake from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Dragan Stojković’s men were hit with a blow late in the first half when Juventus winger Filip Kostić was forced to limp off the pitch after sustaining a knock.

Harry Kane came close to doubling England’s lead in the 78th minute after he met a beautiful cross from substitute Jarrod Bowen. But the Serbian goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic pulled off a fantastic save and pushed the header onto the crossbar to keep his side in the tie.

Earlier Bellingham became the the first European player to make an appearance at three major international tournaments before turning 21 (aged 20 years, 353 days today), having played at EURO 2020, the 2022 FIFA World Cup and now Euro 2024.

With the win, England went top of Group C after the other match between Denmark and Slovenia ended in a 1-1 draw.
