It’s fair to say that a lot of people at first thought that Ariana Grande’s song “Boy Is Mine,” from her latest album, “Eternal Sunshine,” was a cover of the Brandy and Monica duet of the same title that dominated the summer of 1998.
It’s not — but she’s doubled down on the resemblance by teaming up with Brandy and Monica for a remix of the song, which comes out on Friday. Grande made the announcement on social media on Monday morning.
The news is not that much of a surprise, considering the fact that both singers make cameos in Grande’s recently released “Batman”/“Catwoman”-themed video for the song, which co-stars actor Penn Badgley.
“♡ ☼ THE BOY IS MINE REMIX with @brandy and @monicadenise june 21st .゚*ꕤ ♾️,” reads the emoji-spangled announcement which comes complete with a video teaser themed on the video.
“i ……… cannot believe this is real (i don’t know if i will even long after it’s out)
“my deepest and sincerest thank you to Brandy and Monica, not only for joining me for this moment, but for your generosity, your kindness, and for the countless ways in which you have inspired me.
“it is near impossible to say how much this means to me.
“this is in celebration of you both and the impact that you have had on every vocalist, vocal producer, musician, artist that is creating today.
“i loooooove you both so so much.
“thank you !!!!!!!
