KAJANG: Police are hunting down four masked and armed men for their alleged involvement in a gold shop robbery at a shopping mall in Kajang Monday evening.
In the 3.15pm incident, four suspects were seen wearing security guard clothes, masks and dark gloves.
Kajang district deputy police chief Supt Mohamad Nasir Drahman in a statement on Monday (June 17) said the suspects then entered the premises, broke the storage glass where the gold is kept using a hammer and stole the gold.
According to him, during the incident, the suspect was believed to have brought two pistols and a rifle barrel into the premises.
“The suspect fired one shot at the wall of the premises, before fleeing through the building’s parking lot.
“The amount of loss is still under investigation and nothing can be confirmed yet.
“The police are still investigating the closed circuit camera (CCTV) footage inside the building and questioning several witnesses to assist the investigation,” he said.
Supt Mohamad Nasir added that the case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms Act 1971 (Heavy Penalty) for the use of firearms which if convicted, the suspects could face the death penalty although there were no injuries or deaths.
“Anyone who has information related to the incident is urged to contact any nearby police station or directly contact the Investigating Officer of the case,” he said.
