Kartik Aaryan is breaking new ground with his latest film, Chandu Champion, a biographical drama based on the life of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar. In a recent interview with The Free Press Journal, the actor discussed the film’s significance and his approach to box office performance.

Kartik Aaryan explains why Chandu Champion is the biggest film in his career
While Chandu Champion may not boast a grand-scale production, Kartik speaks about the film’s importance. “This film isn’t big for me in terms of scale or stature,” he clarifies, “It is my toughest role and I will always remember this role. I hope people will remember this role in my filmography. It’s the story that is the need of the hour. The film will inspire millions of people to achieve their dreams. I feel, such a character comes rarely in life. Box office numbers won’t matter.”
Kartik Aaryan on balancing profitability and artistic merit
Kartik acknowledges the commercial realities of filmmaking. “Eventually, we all want films to be profitable,” he admits. “I am okay with whatever the numbers are, but it should be profitable to my producers. Since my producers and exhibitors are making money out of my films, my job is done. I only have this much pressure, rest doesn’t matter. Rest everything is just for headlines.”
Kartik Aaryan on embracing the rollercoaster of box office
Despite his acceptance, Kartik confesses to occasional anxieties. “Who wouldn’t like more numbers?” he ponders. “But I have come to terms with that every film wouldn’t be a money spinner. I want to continue to be the gold at the box office, but I don’t know the trick and I do have early Friday jitters.”
Kartik Aaryan admits he is striving for growth
Kartik remains focused on artistic growth. “With the kind of films I am doing, I am trying to set the bar high for myself also,” he shares. “I am constantly upping the game with Satyaprem Ki Katha to Chandu Champion to Bhool Bhulaiyaa and so on. This upping the game makes me go and achieve more.”
Speaking about the film, helmed by Kabir Khan, Chandu Champion is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. It was released on June 14.
