Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Chinese premier Li Qiang delivered joint remarks ahead of a signing ceremony.
Albanese opened his speech by saying he enjoyed his time visiting China last year and will continue spending time with Li after he visited Adelaide yesterday, Canberra today and for his final stop, travels to Perth tomorrow.
“This dialogue has allowed us to build a deeper awareness of our respective interests and in our one-on-one meeting that we just held, that was reinforced as well,” Albanese said.
“I warmly welcome the resumption of the people-to-people connections that have long been a lasting bridge between our two countries. Whether through the arts, education or tourism, these ties deepen personal connections between our two great nations.
“We also have our differences, reflecting our different political systems, approaches and priorities. That is why our candid dialogue is so important, for Australia we consistently advocate in the importance of a regional world that is peaceful, stable and prosperous.”
Li agreed with Albanese’s remarks, using his speech to say it has been a delight to take part in the leadership meetings.
“We exchanged visits to each other’s beautiful countries. This shows the importance we have with our relationship and also shows this relationship is on the right track of steady improvement,” Li said.
“I sincerely hope that … [we] work with you to build a more mature, stable and fruitful comprehensive strategic partnership.”
