MATTA proposes 3,000-litre monthly diesel quota for tourism vehicles – MASHAHER

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel (MATTA) has proposed a quota of 3,000 litres per month for diesel subsidy for tour vehicle operators.

It said the allocation would help mitigate the financial burden on those who operate vehicles such as tour buses, and allow the industry to remain competitive.

“We appreciate the government seriously considering the introduction of diesel subsidies for van and tour operators under the purview of the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry,” MATTA president Nigel Wong said in a statement on Tuesday (June 18).

“While we understand the objectives of the diesel subsidy rationalisation move, the industry needs time to adjust, given the contractual obligations of many agents.

“A grace period will allow tour operators to meet existing commitments without immediately bearing losses from increased fuel costs,” he said.

According to Wong, the ministry aims to attract 35.6 million foreign tourists during Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and a diesel subsidy will be crucial to help tourism players make the campaign a success.

“We trust the government will support our proposals to support the industry during this challenging period,” he added.
