Shah Rukh Khan was the biggest success story of 2023 as he delivered two back-to-back all-time blockbusters – Jawan and Pathaan. This and his huge list of brand endorsements have helped the superstar increase his brand value considerably. According to a report by Kroll, the actor was in the 10th position in 2022 on the list of India’s most valued celebrities. But in 2023, he jumped to the 3rd position. His brand value also increased from $55.7 million (Rs. 464.34 crores) to $120.7 million (Rs. 1006 crores).

According to Kroll’s Celebrity Brand Valuation Report 2023 titled ‘Brands, Business, Bollywood’, Virat Kohli takes the number 1 position, up from the second position a year earlier. His brand value stands at a huge $227.9 million (Rs. 1899 crores).

Ranveer Singh, meanwhile, was in the first position in the 2022 edition but a year later, he slipped to the second rank. He boasts of a value of $203.1 (Rs. 1693 crores). It’s up from his 2022 value of $181.7 million (Rs. 1514 crores). Virat’s value, however, had a bigger jump from $176.9 million (Rs. 1474 crores) to $227.9 million.

Akshay Kumar too came down by one point, from 3rd position to 4th position. His brand value is $111.7 million (Rs. 930.96 crores). Alia Bhatt, who was on No. 4 in the 2022 list, has taken the fifth slot, with a value of $101.1 million (Rs. 842.62 crores). Deepika Padukone too, came one rank below at sixth position with a brand value of $96 million (Rs. 800.20 crores). The same applies to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was in the 6th position but now occupies the 7th position. His brand value is worth $95.8 (Rs. 798.54 crores).

Sachin Tendulkar, whose brand value boasts of $91.3 million (Rs. 761.03 crores) continues to occupy the eighth position. Amitabh Bachchan slid by two ranks. With a brand value of $83.6 (Rs. 696.85 crores), he is in 9th position. Salman Khan, who occupied the 11th slot in the 2022 report, jumped by one rank to 10th position. His brand value is $81.7 million (Rs. 681.03 crores).

The rest of the slots are occupied by Hrithik Roshan (11th position), Kiara Advani (12th position), Ranbir Kapoor (13th position), Anushka Sharma (14th position), Kareena Kapoor Khan (15th position), Ayushmann Khurrana (16th position), Kartik Aaryan (17th position), Rohit Sharma (18th position), Hardik Pandya (19th position), Rashmika Mandanna (20th position), Neeraj Chopra (21st position), Allu Arjun (22nd position), Sara Ali Khan (23rd position), Varun Dhawan (24th position) and Katrina Kaif (25th position). Katrina is the new entrant to the list of top 25 celebs.

The report remarks, “Over the past couple of years, the landscape of celebrity influence has evolved beyond the silver screen, with stars venturing into the world of entrepreneurship and global ambassadorship. Celebrities like Akshay Kumar (launched Force IX), Deepika Padukone (launched 82°E) and Nayanthara (launched 9SKIN) have successfully introduced their own brands across industries such as skincare and clothing, transcending the boundaries of traditional entertainment. Also, renowned stars like Alia Bhatt have become Celebpreneur of the Year, leveraging their star power to create successful ventures and also harvested the benefits by partly investing in Ed-a-Mamma in 2023. The investing trend is not confined to one particular industry; instead, it spans across sectors, showcasing the versatility of celebrity influence. In a nutshell, the synergy between celebrity entrepreneurship, global star advocacy, and the resurgence of Bollywood is set to redefine the dynamics of the entertainment and business industries.”

At this rate, the 2024 report will see new entrants. Vinit Karnik, Business Head, GroupM ESP stated in the report, “In 2023, Indian celebrities such as Kriti Sanon and Nayanthara evolved from brand endorsers to entrepreneurs, launching their ventures and reshaping the industry. While celebrity entrepreneurs didn’t debut in 2023, this trend of celebrities turning into brand owners, gained traction last year, and is set to continue influencing the landscape in 2024.”

The Kroll report of 2023 also divulges information on top brands promoted on television and OTT. According to their data, the top three most advertised brands on television are Harpic endorsed by Akshay Kumar; Lux Soap endorsed by Anushka Sharma, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Virat Kohli; and Veet endorsed by Sara Ali Khan. Meanwhile, the top three most advertised brands on digital platforms are Pepsi endorsed by Ranveer Singh; Livspace endorsed by Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli; and JioCinema endorsed by Alia Bhatt, M S Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar.
