Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh extended a gesture to filmmaker Karan Johar. Diljit graciously gifted his hit song ‘Lover’ to Karan for inclusion in his romantic drama, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
Diljit Dosanjh says he gave his ‘Lover’ for free to Karan Johar for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani due to prior work rapport: “Woh mujhe paise de dete, main kitna hi ameer ho jata?”
Diljit’s gesture has not only garnered praise from fans but has also set an admirable precedent for collaboration and goodwill within the industry. Talking to Sucharita Tyagi for her YouTube channel, Diljit Dosanjh was asked about giving his chartbuster song ‘Lover’ to Karan Johar for free and whether it was due to their friendship.
The ‘Born To Shine’ singer said, “I am not friends with anyone as such. If I have worked with someone once and they need something, if I can’t help them then what is the point? If I was a doctor, then I would have done his surgery for free (laughs).”
He added, “If one of my music producer friends does a song for me, then I sing a song for them. The only thing that matters is, what can you do for someone you already know? That’s all there is. There is nothing like I gave it for free.”
The singer went on to say that it wouldn’t have made much difference if Karan had paid him too. He said, “Ya woh mereko paise de dete, main kitna ameer ho jata? Unke chalo mann mein aaya yeh acchi baat hai. Lekin unko bhi paise ki kami nahi hai aur mujhe bhi koi aisi jyada zarurat nahi hai toh issliye maine kaha ki aap le lo, use kar lo, koi baat nahi (If he paid me, how much richer would I have gotten? He thought about it, that’s a good thing. But he isn’t short of money, and I also don’t need much so I said take it, use it.)”
‘Lover’, a pop number penned by Diljit himself, perfectly encapsulates the essence of love and longing.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Diljit Dosanjh’s Jatt and Juliet 3, hitting theatres on June 27, is highly anticipated by fans as it marks his reunion with Neeru Bajwa.
