EXCLUSIVE: Vinod Rawat on managing multiple roles in Pushtaini; says, “I’m building my own Taj Mahal of 2024”
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, when asked about how he managed all the responsibilities of being the actor, director, writer, and producer of Pushtaini, Vinod Rawat said, “I had a thought that I am building my own Taj Mahal of 2024. When you see Mughal-e-Azam, I have heard the director had to earn money and then go back to the shoot. I felt I didn’t get inspiration from there at that time, this thought didn’t come to me then. I have tried something similar. You should write a story, earn some money, learn a bit about direction, and even if you don’t want to learn, there are paths in your journey where you get the opportunity to learn, and then you enjoy it a lot.”
He further added, “I personally feel that I am quite uneducated because people have a good habit of remembering things, and I have a good habit of forgetting. There was an actor whom I coached; I never wanted to be an actor, I was just wandering here and there, and now I am into producing things. If you really ask me, I don’t have an answer, but things are happening, and I’m just embracing it and taking it as a chance.”
Talking about Pushtaini, he said, “For me, it’s a story of a father and son, where the son is somewhere trying to confront his father but hasn’t been able to get that opportunity. However, despite not having his father, all the grudges in his mind are cleared by how they manage everything. It’s a different perspective where this boy has to go back home to Uttarakhand and work there.”
Rawat further highlighted the biggest challenges he faced while making the film. He stated, “My biggest challenge was convincing my aunt, who lived in Bageshwar, a small town in Uttarakhand. About 8-10 km away in a jungle with mountains and valleys, there was a village with 6 houses where my aunt lived. She didn’t know acting and doesn’t even know to speak proper Hindi, and I needed her to play a major character in this film. Convincing her was my biggest challenge, I felt. At first, she refused, saying she couldn’t do it no matter what. She said she couldn’t speak Hindi well and asked why I was involving her. I told her, ‘Aunt, if you don’t do this role, I will be ruined, I will be on the road. Is that what you want?’ My emotions worked, and she was like, Why are you putting me in this situation?”
