Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab alleges voter list rigging ahead of Maharashtra Legislative Council polls – MASHAHER

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab alleged that the Election Commission, under pressure from the Maharashtra government, omitted thousands of their voters from the voter list for the Legislative Council elections.

Parab, a sitting Member of the Legislative Council and the candidate for the Mumbai Graduate Constituency of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, met Kiran Kulkarni, the additional chief electoral officer, over the matter.

“It has been found that the names of the majority of these voters were not included in the recently released supplementary voter list. On the contrary, almost all the names registered by the rival parties have been included in the supplementary voter list,” he alleged in a letter.

Parab also added, “Voters who have successfully registered online and still had their applications rejected have not been given any reason by the Election Commission of India for rejecting their applications. Even my daughter’s name has not been included in the list.”

Two seats each in the Legislative Council from the graduates’ constituency (Mumbai and Konkan) and the teachers’ constituency (Mumbai and Nashik) will go to polls on June 26.

The Uddhav Sena leader further alleged that voting centres are at inconvenient locations.

“While determining the polling stations for the graduate elections, the list of final polling stations was given directly without consulting the political parties. Polling stations have been placed in inconvenient and water-logged areas during heavy rains, thus there is a possibility of confusion on the polling day,” Parab added.

He also pointed out that a couple from the same address had been assigned different polling stations.

Parab asserted that these incidents are against the principle of ‘free and transparent elections’ of the Election Commission of India and urged the poll body to intervene and resolve the issues.
