Sg Bakap polls: Behave in a civil manner, Fahmi tells party supporters – MASHAHER

NIBONG TEBAL: Supporters of candidates vying for the Sungai Bakap state seat have been cautioned to behave in a civil manner and not stir up issues online.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will closely monitor sites to look out for those posting inappropriate comments.

“This is a reminder to all supporters of both candidates to always be civil and behave well especially on social media.

“The concern we have is people who may use fake accounts to try and stir things up or spread misinformation.

“I want to caution all supporters to always behave well on the internet including not posting unkind comments or breaking the law especially sensitive content related to race, religion and royalty (3R),” he said during a press conference held outside the Sungai Bakap nomination centre at the Jawi Multipurpose Hall here on Saturday (June 22).

Fahmi was speaking to the press after the Sungai Bakap state by-election nominations, which will see a straight fight between Perikatan Nasional candidate Abidin Ismail and Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin.

Fahmi said MCMC will take action on those who post inappropriate content during the campaigning period.

“They (MCMC) will monitor posts and live-streaming on social media. Any party that posts a comment including during the live sessions that violates our laws will have action taken against them,” he added.
