Delhi water crisis: AAP delegation meets Delhi LG, urges to resolve water crisis with Haryana | India News – MASHAHER

NEW DELHI: A delegation of Aam Aadmi Party leaders met Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Sunday over the ongoing water crisis in the national capital and urged him to talk to the Haryana government to release Delhi’s share of alloted water supply.
After meeting the Delhi LG, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “We requested the Lt Governor to talk to Haryana.Haryana is still giving around 113 MGD less water to Delhi, due to which lakhs of people are facing problems and the Lt Governor has assured us that he will talk to the Haryana government and try to ensure that we get Delhi’s water.”
This comes a day after LG Saxena lashed out at the Aam Aadmi party-led government, accusing it of turning the crisis into an opportunity for blaming neighbouring states.
In a statement Delhi LG Saxena said, “The shrill discourse of the ministers of the GNCTD over the last few weeks, has been distressing and questionable at various levels. Drinking water supply has become a challenge in the national capital. Political leaders of Delhi have turned a crisis into an opportunity for blaming neighbouring states, with the sole aim of gaining political mileage.”
“Delhi is dependent on drinking water supply from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Interstate water-sharing arrangements are settled through institutional mechanisms created by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, GoI, upheld time and again by the highest court of the land. The states are obliged to release water as per agreements signed under this framework. At the same time, the city government is under an obligation to ensure that this water resource is used efficiently to ensure equitable supplies across the city,” he added.
Meanwhile, Delhi water minister Atishi , who is sitting on an indefinite hunger strike against the water crisis said the Haryana government has closed all gates of Hathnikund Barrage that is used to release water for Delhi.
Atishi’s indefinite hunger strike to demand water for Delhi, which is under the grip of a severe water crisis and scorching heat, entered its third day.
In a video message on X, she said, “I have been on a hunger strike to get Delhi’s share of water. Haryana government is releasing 100 MGD water less which is depriving nearly 28 lakh people of Delhi of water. Some journalists have said that the Hathnikund Barrage is full of water but Haryana government has shut all gates to stop that water from reaching the national capital.”
“My hunger strike will continue till Delhi gets its rightful share of water,” she added.
The Aam Aadmi Party has claimed that of the 1,005 MGD of water supplied to Delhi daily, the city should get 613 MGD from Haryana. But the national capital is getting less than 513 MGD water from Haryana, the party has claimed.
