Squash: Mums are our heroes, says Nicol at launch of Ibu Legends programme – MASHAHER

PETALING JAYA: My mother, my superhero.

It’s a motto that is close to squash legend Datuk Nicol David’s heart and this week, in honour of the roles played by mothers in the life of their children, she and together with former Colombian squash player, Mariana de Reyes, launched Ibu Legends programme under the banner of Nicol David Organisation (NDO) on Saturday.

The Ibu Legends with it’s catch phrase – My Ibu, My Heart, My Life, is an addition to their already ongoing children’s programme Little Legends that focuses on empowering girls and boy through sports and education.

The mothers will go through holistic four-month programme that focuses on delivering full free medical checkups, mental and physical well-being workshops and parenting support.

The NDO want to build a positive environment for mothers to enhance their health and strengthen their mental resilience.

“I have the most admiration for mothers, they’re the centre of every home and they are our heroes,” said Nicol.

“I have been blessed to have a loving and nurturing mother who taught me the values of humbleness but also to always look out for myself.

“I know firsthand how much she sacrificed for me and my sisters, but she never once said it or asked for help. She just did it because that’s what mothers do, they keep giving to make sure all of us are okay.

“This is why this programme is so important to me, because my dream is that all mothers are looked after, that all mothers have what they need to be healthy and supported.

“Motherhood can be lonely, and my wish is that through this programme we can provide counsel and community to grow together.”The event was held at the VE Hotel and Residence and was graced by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, along with the 30 mothers involved in the programme, sponsors and partners.

The four full-day workshops will cover topics on mental health, parenting workshops, nutrition support and physical wellness.
