Collingwood forward Josh Carmichael has reportedly been referred to the AFL’s independent concussion panel amid persistent issues.
Carmichael has been the victim of multiple concussions in the past 12 months alone — the most recent of which having delayed effects after a VFL outing in May.
The 24-year-old also copped a high hit in pre-season training at the end of last year.

The South Australian has played just nine AFL games — his last was against Richmond in Round 3, 2023 — since arriving at Olympic Park as the ninth pick in the 2022 mid-season rookie draft.
Carmichael will now meet with the panel to consider his options, with his footballing future currently clouded.
Collingwood’s Round 16 injury update read: “Josh Carmichael continues to work through the AFL’s concussion protocols and continues to be supported by the Club and AFL medical teams.”
The West Adelaide product penned a one-year Magpies contract extension in October of last year and hasn’t played any football since May.
Carmichael’s ex-Collingwood teammate, Nathan Murphy, was medically retired in the pre-season after ongoing concussion issues.
Former Melbourne premiership player Angus Brayshaw and uncapped Western Bulldogs youngster Aidan O’Driscoll also retired this year as a result of concussive effects.
