Parineeti Chopra was praised for her outstanding performance in Imtiaz Ali’s successful latest Netflix film, Amar Singh Chamkila. After its release, the actress took a much-needed 15-day hiatus to spend time with her husband, Raghav Chadha. Parineeti, who is now back at work, recently revealed her professional path in an interview, honestly admitting that she had previously selected film parts for the wrong reasons.
Parineeti Chopra opens up on choosing roles; says, “I have done films that I may not have believed in”
During an interview with India Today, Parineeti Chopra stated, “The plan is just to do films that feel right. I have done films for the wrong reasons. Sometimes, I have done films that I may not have believed in. It feels like there is homework for me to do when the audience is going to get a crazy good performance out of me. It just motivates me to do such roles that need homework. Homework that maybe nobody else can do.”
Parineeti also spoke about her co-star Diljit Dosanjh, revealing that they worked hard to overcome numerous prejudices with the film. The actress stated, “There are many things that Diljit and I both did in this film under the leadership of Imtiaz sir, which are not usually done. And that motivates me to take more risks because we trust the audience. They accept us when we do such kinds of things.”
Parineeti Chopra also stated that she took considerable risks and delivered her most dedicated performances in the film. She revealed that she gained 16kg for the role, a commitment she feels few actresses would be willing to make.
Amar Singh Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali, is a biographical movie about pop artist duet Amar Singh Chamkila (Diljit) and Amarjot Kaur (Parineeti). Their songs had strong lyrics and were huge hits in the 1980s.
On the work front, Parineeti will next appear in director Anurag Singh’s upcoming horror film Sanki. The film follows a police officer who retires following an accident during a case investigation. Years later, he is reliving the past by telling the story to his friend’s son. The film also stars Varun Dhawan in a pivotal role. The actress will also appear in Karan Sharma’s Shiddat 2, alongside Sunny Kaushal and Amyra Dastur.
