Catalans Dragons have confirmed the signature of Canberra winger Nick Cotric, who arrives on a three-year deal from next year.

Cotric, 25, had been rumoured to be heading to the French club after falling down the pecking order at Ricky Stuart’s Raiders this season.

Catalans confirmed confirmed the outside back’s signature via their website, with Cotric stating he was looking forward to the move.

“I can’t wait to put the jersey on and go hard with the boys,” he said.

“I’m excited to make new memories and play for a great club and team.”

Catalans coach Steve McNamara said Cotric is “an extremely exciting signing for our club.”

“Capable of playijng both wing and centre. He is a player who breaks tackles and is blessed with genuine speed,” he said.

“For a young man he has huge experience and we look forward to having him on our team.”

The powerful winger has played eight times this season, scoring four tries in that team., but has been a shadow of the player who once represented his state and country.

Cotric broke into first grade as a teenage in 2017 and played for New South Wales once, in 2019, and Australia twice, also in 2019.

In recent years Catalans has become a haven for NRL players moving to the Super League, with the likes of Mitchell Pearce, James Maloney, Tariq Sims, Willie Mason and Matt Ikuvalu running out for the Dragons in recent years.

ARMSTRONG TO LEAVE NEWCASTLE

Newcastle Knights have confirmed fullback David Armstrong’s time at the club will come to an end with the Super League his next destination.

A Knights club statement on Wednesday confirmed the young gun’s time in the Hunter would come to a close at the end of his current deal, which expires this year, and all but confirmed Armstrong would be on his way to the UK.

‘The Newcastle Knights have decided they will not stand in the way of David Armstrong accepting an offer to join the Leigh Leopards at the end of the 2024 season,’ the statement read.

Armstrong, 23, made his NRL debut in Round 8 and hit the ground running with a try, 187 metres and 12 tackle breaks.

However, his path to consistent first grade football in the future is blocked by Knights main man Kalyn Ponga, who is signed until the end of 2027.

After largely excelling in his five NRL game’s this season – scoring on average a try, 149 run metres and four tackle breaks per game – Armstrong was linked with multiple NRL clubs, including the Sydney Roosters.

However, a mixture of injury, a poor outing in Newcastle’s Round 13 loss to the Bulldogs, and his contract situation has seen Armstrong fall out of favour at the Knights, with 20-year-old Fletcher Sharpe taking the fullback reigns until Ponga is back on deck.

The Knights’ statement draws the young fullback’s extraordinary contract saga to a close. Earlier this month it was reported Armstrong had knocked back Leigh’s advances to ink a new deal keeping him in Newcastle until 2026.

Leigh confirmed the news on Wednesday evening, announcing Armstrong had been signed for three years.

“I can’t wait to unleash David Armstrong on the Super League next season,” head coach Adrian Lam said.

“He’s going to really add a lot of X Factor to our team.

“He is someone we have been tracking for a while so it’s great to finally have that over the line.”

PANTHER’S RE-SIGN FIVE YOUNG GUNS

The Panthers have revealed five of the club’s rising stars have re-signed, Luron Patea, Billy Scott, Trent Toelau, Luke Sommerton and Billy Phillips all extending their stay at the club.

Patea, 19, has earnt a huge upgrade, being immediately elevated to the NRL squad, with his contract running until the end of the 2027 season.

Scott, 19, has signed a contract that sees him become a development player until the end of 2025 before graduating into the top squad in 2026 and 2027.

Toelau, 24, who made his NRL debut this season, will also be a development player for the next 18 months before he becomes a top 30 member in 2026.

Sommerton, 24, has been promoted to the top 30 for the 2025 season on a one-year contract.

He’s already played four NRL games since making his debut in Round 24 of the 2023 season.

Phillips, 20, finally will train with the squad full time for two-and-a-half years before joining the top 30 in 2027.

“On behalf of all at Panthers, I’d like to congratulate these five players on re-signing with the club,” Panthers general manager of football Shane Elford said.

“These young guys have all been impressive over the past couple of seasons and thoroughly deserve their contract extensions.

“Not only are they talented footballers, but they are also great young men who are dedicated to their rugby league careers – and we look forward to watching their progression in Panthers colours.”

RAIDERS RECRUIT THREE RISING STARS

The Raiders have signed three of rugby league’s most promising stars, with Ethan Sanders, Myles Martin and Savelio Tamale all making the move to the nation’s capital.

All three players will arrive at the club ahead of the 2025 season, with Sanders and Martin locked in for three years, and Tamale two.

Sanders, a halfback who has already made his NRL debut for the Eels, has long been linked with the Raiders.

Meanwhile, Martin and Tamale will make the move from the Knights and Dragons respectively.

All three players featured for NSW in last year’s Under 19s State of Origin clash, alongside three current Raiders players.

Ethan Strange, Chevy Stewart and Jake Clydsdale all also featured in that team, while Stewart also played in the 2024 edition of the game.

“We’re really excited to have Ethan, Myles and Savelio join us in 2025 and we know they have the talent and drive to take their games to the next level,” Raiders recruitment manager Joel Carbone said.

“We’ve demonstrated that our club provides opportunity and a clear pathway to the NRL and we look forward to them joining us in 2025 and wish them all the best for the remainder of their seasons with their current clubs.”

PANTHERS LOCK DOWN FUTURE STARS

Penrith’s assembly line of junior talent has produced two more long-term stars, with siblings Jesse and Casey McLean signing new deals that will keep the outside backs at the club until 2028.

The brothers will represent NSW in Thursday night’s under-19 State of Origin match, with Jesse named co-captain for the Blues.

Jesse, 20, has already played two NRL games for Penrith, including one against the Dragons earlier this year when he scored one of the tries of the season.

There are huge raps on Casey, who was named the Panthers’ player of the year for Harold Matthews last season, with the 18-year-old promoted to the NSW Cup side this year.

“On behalf of all at Panthers, I’d like to congratulate Jesse and Casey on re-signing with the club on long-term deals,” Panthers rugby league chief executive Matt Cameron said.

“Panthers prides itself on the built-from-within mantra and it’s always rewarding to see local juniors commit to the club.”

With Sunia Turuva off to the Tigers and Taylan May’s future up in the air, there’s an outside chance the brothers could play alongside each other in the NRL as early as 2025 when Casey is elevated to Penrith’s top-30 squad.

“Not only are the McLean brothers highly talented rugby league players, but they are also wonderful young men who live out the values of the Panthers,” Panthers general manager of football Shane Elford said.

“Jesse and Casey have both worked tirelessly to be in the position they are in and we look forward to their career progression at Panthers.”

DOLPHINS LOCK DOWN RISING STAR

The Dolphins have re-signed another key player, with rising flyer Jack Bostock putting pen to paper on a fresh contract.

The young gun will remain at the Dolphins until the end of the 2027 season, having made the move from the Dragons only 18 months ago.

The 20-year-old made his debut five games into the 17th franchise’s debut season, and has this year cemented a place on the left wing.

“It is easy to see why we were so keen to give Jack a chance in an NRL system and he has taken every opportunity presented to him,” Dolphins’ chief executive Terry Reader said in a club statement.

“His improvement has been rapid, and he has demonstrated plenty of strike in the way and rate at which he scores tries.

“We are very pleased that Jack has signed on for at least another three seasons and can see him thrilling Dolphins’ home crowds for many years to come.”

Bostock himself said: “I am really enjoying the club, my teammates and living in the area.

“I know I still have a lot to learn but am committed to doing my very best for the Dolphins’ members and fans.”

DOUEIHI REMAINS AT THE TIGERS

Wests Tigers playmaker Adam Doueihi has agreed to terms with the club after initially rejecting an extension offer from the club.

Doueihi hasn’t played in the NRL in over a year after tearing his ACL for the third time on his left knee in Round 6 last season.

The 25-year–old made his return via the NSW Cup last week and has been named on the extended bench for the Tigers clash against the Raiders on Sunday.

Doueihi was offered a minimum wage contract for 2025 but he knocked it back to play his way into a better deal.

It’s unclear whether the Tigers upped their offer but Doueihi has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at the club until the end of next season.

The Balmain junior has played 87 NRL games after making his debut at the Rabbitohs in 2018 and then joining the Tigers in 2020.

“I’m still only 25 and I know my best years are ahead of me,” Doueihi said.

“I’ll be working as hard as I can over the rest of this season and next season and I’m excited about the years ahead.”

Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson added: “It’s been a very long road back from injury for Adam and it was so pleasing to see him out there last weekend. He is a tremendously talented footballer whose resilience and mental toughness cannot be questioned. And more importantly, he is a very good person.”

JMK RE-SIGNS

A star player knocking back powerhouse foundation club South Sydney for expansion minnows the Dolphins?

It was unheard of just 18 months ago but now it’s transpired with gun hooker Jeremy Marshall-King rejecting the Rabbitohs to pen a long-term extension at Redcliffe.

The Dolphins have experienced a rapid transformation since their inaugural match last March. Leading into their first season, recruiting representative players and rising stars was like pulling hen’s teeth, but they are quickly becoming a destination club.

Marshall-King, 28, has signed a three-year extension that will keep him at the Dolphins until the end of 2028.

The New Zealand international has been a revelation at the Dolphins from the get-go, with the crafty No. 9 making the break that led to the Dolphins’ historic first try in Round 1 last year that was scored by Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow.

Marshall-King forms an important part of the Dolphins’ spine strategy, with young half Isaiya Katoa and Tabuia-Fidow also signed to long-term deals.

“Jeremy is one of the most underrated players in the NRL competition,” Dolphins’ chief executive Terry Reader said.

“And it is fair to say that people are quickly realising how important he is to our team.”

Marshall-King has played 128 NRL matches and also represented New Zealand in two Tests as well as playing for the Maori All Stars.

“I have really enjoyed my time so far at the Dolphins,” said Marshall-King.

“I have appreciated the change since moving from Sydney and my family is enjoying life around the club.

“I am also excited by the future the Dolphins have and what we can do in the NRL over the next few years.”
