Latin America celebrates diversity with pride parades – MASHAHER

STORY: :: June 29, 2024

:: Mexico City, Mexico

:: Pride parades across Latin America celebrate diversity and inclusion

:: Santiago, Chile

:: Lima, Peru

:: In Peru, this comes days after the country stops calling trans people mentally ill

::“It’s a fight for our dreams, a fight for respect, for tolerance and equality. I believe we are all equal beyond what gender or sexuality we choose. That is why we are here in this march.”

:: San Salvador, El Salvador

Thousands of Mexicans took over the iconic Paseo de la Reforma avenue. This year, company floats were banned in order to emphasize the struggle for a dignified life behind the event.

Chileans endured the cold weather, as they paraded through Santiago demanding the government to improve anti-discrimination laws.

In Lima, demonstrators brought color to the streets days after the Health Ministry said the country would stop listing individuals who identify as transgender, among others, as suffering from mental disorders. The ministry also noted it will refrain from using other terms rights groups have slammed as prejudiced.

Demonstrators in San Salvador denounced the discriminating policies of the government during their parade. Earlier this year President Nayib Bukele said school curriculums should not teach ‘anti-natural ideologies’ that go ‘against God and the families’.
