Rahul Dravid backed India to win several trophies in the coming years. Dravid finished his career as the head coach on a high after the Men in Blue won the T20 World Cup 2024 title. On Saturday, June 29, India beat Aiden Markram’s South Africa by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados and ended their 11-year-long wait to win an ICC title.

Dravid took charge of the Indian team from November 2021 after Ravi Shastri stepped down. Under his tenure, India finished as the runners-up in the World Test Championship last year and the ODI World Cup. However, after a couple of disappointing finishes in 2023, Dravid and his men got their hands on the coveted T20 World Cup trophy.
“There is fantastic talent in the Indian cricket team. Their energy and confidence is on another level at this time. In the coming times, India will win so many trophies, in the next 5-6 years. This was a journey of 2 years. The construction of this team and the kind of skills we wanted, the players we wanted. The discussions started when I started in 2021 and this is not the work of just this World Cup, It feels like a journey of 2 years,” Dravid said after the match.
‘Been a great journey’
Back in 2003, Dravid missed out on winning the World Cup after India lost to Australia in the final. 4 years later, in 2007, India failed to go beyond the league stage. In 2018, he won the U19 World Cup with the Indian team in New Zealand back in 2018.

“As a player, I was not lucky enough to win a trophy but I gave my best…I was lucky enough to be given an opportunity to coach a team, I was lucky that this bunch of boys made it possible for me to be able to win this trophy. It is a great feeling, it is not like I was aiming for some redemption, it was the job I was doing…it has been a great journey,” Dravid added.
Against South Africa, after opting to bat first, India put up a decent score of 176 for 7 on the board after Virat Kohli’s 76. Thereafter, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh held their nerves to take India past the finish line.
