A woman has been charged after a video circulated on social media allegedly showing a member of prison staff having sex with an inmate.
Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, has been charged with misconduct in public office, the Metropolitan Police said.
An investigation was launched “after officers were made aware of a video allegedly filmed inside HMP Wandsworth”.
On Friday, a video – which appeared to be filmed by another inmate on a mobile phone – of a staff member engaged in sex acts was shared online.
During the video, prison staff can be heard on the officer’s radio and piles of the prisoner’s clothes can be seen.
A Met spokesperson said: “A police investigation was launched on 28 June after officers were made aware of a video filmed inside HMP Wandsworth.
“A woman was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office later that day. Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, of Fulham was charged on 29 June with misconduct in public office.
“She will appear in custody at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 1 July.”
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
A spokesman for HMP Prison Service previously said: “Staff corruption is not tolerated and the former prison officer allegedly featured in this video has been reported to the police.
“It would be inappropriate to comment further while they investigate.”
It comes after an “urgent notification” about conditions at HMP Wandsworth was issued by chief inspector of prisons Charlie Taylor in May.
Inspectors found the Wandsworth prison with severe overcrowding, vermin and surging violence among inmates.

A total of 44 per cent of inmates tested positive for drugs.
