Police dog missing after running off in remote area | UK News – MASHAHER

A search has been launched for a missing police dog that has disappeared in the Scottish Highlands near Loch Ness.

PD Fergie ran off after a deer bolted in front of her during a walk north of Polmaily House at around 10am on Sunday.

She has not been seen since.

The remote area north of the A831 – less than five miles from Loch Ness – is a regular walking route for the three-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd.

Chief Inspector Gordon Fotheringham, Police Dog Unit lead for the north, said it was “out of character” for PD Fergie to run off.

He added: “Concerns are growing that she may be injured and unable to respond when called.”

Searches are under way, with members of the public urged to keep an eye out – but to take care if they spot her.

CI Fotheringham added: “PD Fergie is a trained police dog and while she has a friendly nature, she may not react to the public in the same way that other dogs would.

“If you see her, stand still and engage in a normal manner as you would with any dog by speaking to her.

“She may stand and bark and this is normal behaviour for a trained police dog.

“Our advice is not to run towards or away from PD Fergie under any circumstances.”
