Sydney: Boy, 14, dressed in military clothing stabs university student in the neck | World News – MASHAHER

A 14-year-old boy dressed in military clothing has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a university student in the neck in Sydney.

The 22-year-old victim was taken to hospital in a stable condition, while the suspect was treated for cuts and kept for a mental health assessment.

New South Wales Police says a motive has yet to be determined, but detectives stressed there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The teenager allegedly involved in the attack was described as wearing a “camouflage defence force uniform” and left a kitchen knife at the scene.

He then caught a bus from the University of Sydney to a nearby hospital prior to being arrested.

Acting assistant commissioner Mark Walton confirmed the boy was known to the police and other government agencies but gave no further details.

“The internet is toxic and it’s very easy for young people, especially, to self-radicalise, to move towards violence,” he added.

No link has been found connecting this attack with a 16-year-old boy who has been charged with stabbing a bishop in Sydney during a service in mid-April.

Campus buildings were locked down after Tuesday’s stabbing, but a police operation has ended – and all areas are now accessible.

“The safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and members of the community are our priority and we continue to work with authorities,” a University of Sydney statement said.
