LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A woman is dead following a shooting after what police believe started as a fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend at an apartment complex in the southwest Las Vegas valley.
The shooting took place at an apartment complex in the 4300 block of South Jones Boulevard near Flamingo Road on Wednesday.
Las Vegas Metropolitan police officers responded to the scene after a call that a shooting had taken place at the apartment complex just after 4 p.m.
Police told 8 News Now the suspect called 911 “indicating he had shot his girlfriend during an altercation that occurred inside” an apartment. The 911 dispatch operator gave the suspect medical advice on how to treat the wounds of the woman, police said during a news conference on Wednesday night.
Once officers arrived they took the suspect into custody. The officers then located a woman in her 30s on an upstairs landing where she was treated for multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
Once the woman arrived at the hospital she was pronounced dead.
The suspect, who was described by police as a man in his 30s, was in police custody as of 5 p.m. Police also told 8 News Now that they were unaware of what led up to the dispute but believe the shooting was part of a domestic dispute and that the couple had a history of prior disputes in the past.
Those with information on the shooting are urged to call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
