To begin, it was quick Collingwood versus slow, considered Essendon, and that suited the Magpies down to the ground.
In the second quarter, the Bombers tightened up in defence and kicked a couple of fast break goals of their own. Turnovers denied them more, but the Magpies were also profligate as they tried to turn the ball back into the corridor.
Steele Sidebottom has been Collingwood’s stand-out, running the game like a quarter-back from half-back. The Bombers’ eye-catcher was from the other end of the experience spectrum. Nate Caddy is playing just his third game, but any time now, if not tonight, he will tear a game apart.
