Producer Karan Johar and director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s Kill, which opens this Friday, will have a Hollywood remake to be produced by the team behind the John Wick films.
Kill director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat on the film getting a Hollywood remake, “It’s a matter of pride that an Indian film is being remade”
Said Kill director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, “I feel so blessed that Chad Stahelski, Jason Spitz and Alex Young of 87Eleven will be producing this remake of an Indian film. It’s a matter of pride that an Indian film is being remade. Normally, it’s the other way around and it’s a huge win for Indian Cinema, especially when the original film is yet to be released.”
Nikhil wants to make more Indian films that go global outside the NRI viewership. “I really wish to take Indian stories across world as I feel we have so many stories to tell. I can’t thank my producers Karan Johar and Guneet Monga enough for making this happen,” he said.
Kill was widely praised outside India after it was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. In its laudatory review, Variety had written, “In the surprisingly robust category of locomotive-driven action movies, Kill is a lot better than Bullet Train…. As brutal a film as the country has ever produced, Kill is a shockingly graphic action showcase from an industry that typically plays violence in a more cartoony register. All told, ‘Overkill’ probably would have been a better title.”
