NEW YORK, July 5 (Xinhua) — U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 67.87 points, or 0.17 percent, to 39,375.87. The S&P 500 added 30.17 points, or 0.54 percent, to 5,567.19. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 164.46 points, or 0.90 percent, to 18,352.76.
Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with communication services and consumer staples leading the gainers by going up 2.74 percent and 1.21 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and industrials led the laggards by dropping 1.52 percent and 0.40 percent, respectively.
