Sg Bakap polls: PKR will take full responsibility for defeat, says Nurul Izzah – MASHAHER

NIBONG TEBAL: PKR will take full responsibility for their defeat during the Sungai Bakap by-election, says Nurul Izzah Anwar.

The party vice-president said the party accepted and respected the decision made by the people of Sungai Bakap.

“This defeat is taken with full responsibility and as a signal to continue to reflect and remind us that we cannot become comfortable and the work to convince the people cannot stop.

“We accept this decision and are determined to reflect and make changes for the better future of Penang and Malaysia,” she said during a press conference held at their main operations room in Sungai Bakap on Saturday (July 6) night.

Nurul then extended her gratitude to the voters for coming out to cast their votes as well as those who voted for Pakatan Harapan.

“I take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the Pakatan and Barisan Nasional machinery team who have worked tirelessly throughout the campaigning period.

“We now must resume our duties to the people,” she said.

She said they would now carry out a post-mortem on the by-election.

When asked if PKR had failed the test here in the Sungai Bakap by-election and if the party needed to improve in the next by-election, Nurul said that the results gave them an impetus to look inward in greater detail as well at the necessary reforms that they need to make so it does not happen in another by-election.

Pakatan’s candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin also said that the results were a signal from the rakyat that this was their choice and the party had to accept it.

“I have accepted the results.

“We believe the voters were aware when making their decision and believe that they have evaluated things from all angles before casting their vote.

“I believe this by-election was carried out well and it shows how well we worked as a unity government,” he said.
