Stunning “super” ghost orchid blooms again at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary – MASHAHER

The famous “super” ghost orchid at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is in bloom with four blossoms, as seen in these photos taken Tuesday, July 2.

The renowned orchid was discovered in 2007 and can usually be seen blooming this time of year. The orchid has however stunned experts and has bloomed multiple times in a year.

The orchid can be seen using binoculars, a scope or a long lens. It is located about 50 feet high in a large cypress tree and about 100 feet away from the boardwalk at the swamp.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reached a settlement with environmental groups and agreed that by June 2025 it would recommend whether listing ghost orchids as a threatened or endangered species is warranted.

Go to the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary website for more information on the famous orchid.

The sanctuary is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the last admission at 1 p.m. from May 1 through Dec. 15. The sanctuary will be closed for cleaning and repairs August 19-30. Online tickets are recommended.
