PANAMA CITY BEACH — A motorcyclist who fled from a state law enforcement officer was seriously injured in a traffic crash.

According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on Friday in the Panama City Beach area, beginning near Front Beach Road and Clara Avenue. At about midnight, an FHP sergeant was conducting a traffic stop at the intersection.

“He observed a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle operating in a reckless manner,” the release reads. “The FHP supervisor activated his emergency lights and sirens in order to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle. … The driver of the motorcycle rapidly accelerated, actively fleeing.”

The chase lasted only about half a mile, ending when the motorcycle collided with two other vehicles. The motorcyclist, identified as a 34-year-old man from Pompano Beach, was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital.

He has suspended licenses out of Florida, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

“He will also possibly be facing additional charges of fleeing, reckless driving and speed,” the release reads. “This pursuit and crash are still under investigation.”
