New restaurants continue to be constructed on the East Side, most recently going up Eastlake Boulevard.
La Gorda, an El Paso family chain with four locations, plans to open a restaurant along Eastlake.
In the Lower Valley, a new spot for Korean rice dogs, known as Sol K-Dogs, is in a small shopping strip at 8809 N Loop Drive, Unit D-401. The savory, crispy Korean street food is becoming popular in El Paso. The hot dogs are coated in a batter and then deep-fried and can have different toppings, such as diced potatoes.
In addition to Korean dogs, the shop has Boba teas and Kimbap, which is rice wrapped in seaweed and filled with a variety of ingredients.
Here is a closer look at restaurant openings and closings in El Paso.

Cinnaholic closes after five years in El Paso
Cinnaholic, a gourmet cinnamon roll bakery at the Fountains at Farah, closed in June after five years in business. The business model first gained national attention on ABC’s hit show “Shark Tank.”
The business was opened in January 2019 by Deborah Munoz Hicks, wife of Bill Hicks, who was a personal injury attorney with the law firm Ortega, McGlashan, Hicks & Perez at the time. Bill Hicks was sworn into office as the new El Paso District Attorney in 2022.
In a text via Hicks’ chief of staff, Hicks said the couple decided to close the business to be able to focus on raising their six-year-old son, William and so that the family can focus on Bill Hicks’ 2024 campaign to remain the District Attorney for El Paso, Hudspeth and Culberson.
“The family will miss serving the community fresh-made cinnamon rolls but looks forward to more family time and the coming DA campaign,” stated the text.
