Riteish Deshmukh stars in the forthcoming horror-comedy thriller Kakuda. In a recent interview, he discussed the film, maybe referring to earlier popular horror-comedies such as Stree and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. The film, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, also stars Sonakshi Sinha and Saqib Saleem. Riteish portrays a ghost hunter named ‘videshi tantrik’, as shown in the video published last week.
Riteish Deshmukh clarifies Kakuda inspired by great films; says, “It is not just about scares and laughs”
While speaking with Zoom, he disputed that Kakuda mocks Stree or any other horror-comedy movie. He stated that directors frequently draw inspiration from great films, and this is no exception. “There is a dialogue in the film ‘Bhooton se dar nhi lgta insaan se lagta hai.’ That’s not a dig at Dabangg or at Sonakshi’s line, but it’s an ode to that film,” he said.
The popular actor also discussed his motivation for working on Kakuda. Riteish stated that the simplicity of the plot drew him to the film. “I think the script was very interesting. It is a horror-comedy, but it is not just about scares and laughs. It is a story that has a lot of heart, and it is about the relationships between the characters (sic),” he added.
Kakuda is set in Ratodi, a mythical haunted town, where each house has two entrances, one large and one little. The smaller door belongs to a ghost named Kakuda. The film is a love story in which Saqib’s Sunny falls for Sonakshi’s Indira. The curse of Kakuda, on the other hand, completely changes their life. Victor, the ghost hunter, then joins the scene and assists Indira in saving her husband’s life.
This is Aditya’s first film since the enormous success of Munjya, which debuted in June of this year and became a box office hit. Kakuda is also Sonakshi’s debut film since her marriage to Zaheer Iqbal. The film will be accessible for streaming on ZEE5 on July 12.
