Disney+ Hotstar dropped the drama series Bad Cop. Produced by Fremantle India, directed by Aditya Datt and written by Rensil D’Silva the series is a complete mass entertainer is streaming now on the platform, Bad Cop has been reimagined for India by Fremantle India from RTL’s original German drama of the same name.
Director Aditya Datt on crafting a strong female character in Bad Cop: “Female officers need to portrayed as and how they are”
In today’s time, all filmmakers are giving importance to strong women characters and driving powerful female narratives. With the freedom to explore many characters in a long-form series, directors are moving towards female-centric stories or projects with strong female characters. Director Aditya aligns with similar beliefs and has beautifully crafted Devika Naik’s character played by the talented actress, Harleen Sethi.
Talking about it, director Aditya Datt said “I always believe that all my characters need to add their own element to the main story. It cannot be just a filler, which is very important for me personally as a narrator. With Harleen’s character written, we made sure that she was an integral part of the show. I come from a space where, in today’s day and age women officers or female officers, need to be portrayed as and how they are, which is very strong in life. I believe they don’t get that portrayal on screen and there are very few which have been done very well, but also it’s done very less.”
He added, “I was very cautious and clear about the narrative. I wanted the audience to see female characters in a very strong way. If they play any part, of any character in, in a broad prospect of the script which has its own standing, own views, own doings, own responsibilities, be her balancing her marriage, be her balancing her professional work, her personal ego issues with her husband, the kid, how she manages everything at the same time has a strong front.”
