Director Siddharth P. Malhotra is thrilled that his directorial Maharaj has become a huge hit globally! Netflix and YRF Entertainment’s first film collaboration Maharaj, has become a huge success story by being on the global non-English top ten list in 16 countries for over two weeks now. Maharaj is the third most viewed content on this esteemed list! Featuring Junaid Khan in his debut role alongside Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey and Sharvari (in a special appearance), the film, released on June 21st, garnered an impressive 8.5 million views cumulatively in the third and fourth week of its release!
Director Siddharth P Malhotra ‘proud’ of Maharaj’s top ten status in 16 countries on Netflix: “We tried to honour a great social reformer of India, Karsandas Mulji”
Siddharth’s last film Hichki starring the iconic on-screen actor Rani Mukerji was also a massive global blockbuster as it collected Rs. 235 crore worldwide! The director says, “As a filmmaker, I have tried to tell soul-stirring human stories with my last two films Maharaj and Hichki. It feels incredible that both these films about human perseverance have become huge global hits coming from India!”
He adds, “I have always been on the lookout for strong protagonists who leave an unforgettable mark on society and sacrifice a lot to better our community. Karsandas (played by Junaid) and Naina Mathur (played by Rani) have that in common and I respect both these characters immensely. People who fight against all odds are those who we need in society.”
Siddharth further says, “I’m deeply thankful to the global audience for showing so much love on Maharaj, a film through which we tried to honour a great social reformer of India, Karsandas Mulji. His story needed to be told and looks like the world is paying him a salute.”
The filmmaker raises a toast to the entire team on this milestone moment. He says, “To be a hit in 16 countries worldwide is a rare feat and I share this moment with my entire cast and crew. We all made this film with a lot of respect to Kansandas, the Vaishnav community and the women of this time and I’m proud that our film has touched the hearts of many.”
