Flipkart is no longer just a shopping app. The e-commerce platform has now launched five new recharge and bill payment options on its app. These new services include Fastag, DTH recharges, landline, broadband, and mobile postpaid bill payments. These add to the existing options for electricity and mobile prepaid recharges. The company has collaborated with BillDesk, a top payment solutions provider in India, to integrate these services with the Bharat Bill Payments System (BBPS).
Customers can now pay for:
—Fastag
—DTH Recharges
—Landline Bill
—Broadband Payment
—Mobile Postpaid Bills
These additions allow customers to manage multiple bill payments directly through the Flipkart app, making it a one-stop solution for shopping and bill payments.
To encourage the use of these new services, Flipkart is offering up to 10 per cent off with SuperCoins when customers use Flipkart UPI for transactions. This limited-time offer makes paying bills on Flipkart more rewarding.
Gaurav Arora, Vice President of Payments and SuperCoins at Flipkart, highlighted the rapid growth in digital payments. He emphasized Flipkart’s goal to simplify digital payments and support the government’s vision of a cashless economy. “From buying products to digital payment requirements, this enhancement has created a one-stop destination for customers,” he said.
Ajay Kaushal, Co-Founder and Director of BillDesk, expressed excitement about extending BBPS services to Flipkart. He mentioned that this partnership allows Flipkart customers to enjoy seamless bill payments, receive timely notifications, and check amounts due across their preferred billers.
Recently, Flipkart introduced its UPI service, offering a safe and convenient option for recharges and bill payments. Customers can earn rewards through SuperCoins and cashback, and benefit from one-click and quick payment functionalities. This service enhances the overall digital payment experience for users, whether they are shopping online or paying bills.
With these new services, Flipkart continues to innovate and provide customers with an enriched, efficient, and rewarding experience.
As per Flipkart, in the fiscal year 2024, the BBPS handled about 1.3 billion transactions across India, a number expected to more than double by 2026. With over 21,000 billers and 20+ bill categories in the BBPS system, more than 70 per cent of bill payments are now made electronically. Flipkart’s new services tap into this growing trend, providing a seamless electronic payment experience.
