EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Speeding and failing to yield were contributing factors in a crash that killed a 22-year-old man Tuesday morning, July 9, in West El Paso, according to El Paso Police.
Crash involving motorcycle, van turns fatal in West El Paso
Police say Peter Jaden Gonzalez, 22, who was traveling in a motorcycle, died at the scene of the crash which was located at the intersection of Redd Road and Dakota Ridge.
Just before 10 a.m., a 49-year-old man was traveling south on Redd Road in a van and approached the intersection of Redd Road and Dakota Ridge.
The man then entered the mandatory left turn lane to go east on Dakota Ridge and while turning left he was hit by Gonzalez who was traveling north on Redd Road.
Gonzalez was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and died at the scene.
Police say the man’s failure to yield was a contributing factor in this crash and speeding on behalf of Gonzalez was also a contributing factor.
This is the 37th traffic fatality this year compared to 39 last year.
