MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Patients are demanding answers after paying for dental services they did not get.
WREG is on the trail of a Southeast Shelby County dentist, getting to the bottom of where he is and what happened to the people’s money.
The range of people wanting a refund is wide. Going online you can see tons of reviews of people demanding their money back from Contagious Smiles.
We found out there are plans to close down the business and the dentist says he is filing bankruptcy.
Doors are locked at the business, and lights are turned off. The website is no longer active, and it now may stay that way for Contagious Smiles, but customers say they need answers.
Terrence Avant says he is out of options as he shows us a $2,100 receipt from Contagious Smiles for six gold teeth he wanted to be installed, but never ended up getting.

“I been checking the back door and everything. I’m trying to get my money mane,” he said.
Avant says he made the appointment with Dr. Larry Anthony, who owns the practice, and he paid back in January.
“He actually called me and told me his house got broken into, they stole all the gold plates out his house,” said Avant.
That’s when Avant says he asked for a refund but didn’t get it.
“He a good dentist but I don’t know what had happened to him from the beginning of this year to now because he owes multiple people,” he said.
Another woman out of Jackson, Tennesee showed us her receipt for $2,400 for an appointment last week that also never happened.
“They called us back like a month later with an appointment to come July the 2nd, gets down there July the 2nd and they weren’t there,’ said Marquita Long.
We reached out by phone and stopped by a listed address for Dr. Anthony looking for an explanation, but we got no answer.

We finally received the following statement about an hour after our visit:
“It’s aggravating when that much money is involved especially when you got kids,” said Long.
WREG found out Dr. Anthony has a license to practice not only in Tennessee but also in Arkansas and Georgia. Those licenses are all valid, and although we heard complaints about him today, there are no disciplinary actions on his record.
