Pratibha Ranta, who made her debut in Kiran Rao’s film Laapata Ladies, portrayed an inspiring role of Jaya who is a blend of confidence and determination and it seems that this mirrors her own personality in real life too. Now taking a step ahead, the praises and accolades have culminated in a prestigious nomination she earned at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in the Best Actress category.

In fact, Pratibha Ranta has been nominated alongside established names like Alia Bhatt and Jyotika and the actress couldn’t be more thrilled about even having a nomination in the first place. Reflecting on this achievement, Pratibha shared, “Being nominated for Best Actress at the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne is a dream come true. Ever since I was a child, I’ve dreamed of being an actor, and this moment means so much to me. I’m excited and thankful for this recognition and eager to take on more roles in this amazing industry.”
Readers would be aware that Ranta underwent quite a bit of prep for her character. We hear that the actress, who is originally from Shimla, found a genuine connection to Jaya’s character, infusing her performance with authenticity and relatability.
Speaking of Laapataa Ladies, set in the early 2000s, the film tells the story of two young newly-wed brides who get exchanged during a train ride to their husband’s homes. Also starring Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Srivastava in leading roles, the movie, directed by Kiran Rao, received a lot of appreciation from the audience for its beautiful message. Apart from her, Nitanshi Goel, who essayed the role of Phool, has also been nominated in the same category.
Along with Pratibha and Nitanshi, the nominations for Best Actress includes several other names wherein Alia Bhatt is nominated for her 2023 romantic comedy Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani whereas Jyothika for the widely appreciated critically acclaimed Mammootty starrer Kathal – The Core.
