North Carolina shelter rescues dog abandoned in dumpster, saved from euthanasia by South Carolina rescue
On July 8, the North Carolina shelter took to Facebook to post photos of a canine found in a dumpster. Reportedly, the dog named Sadie, later renamed Sydney pooped in her previous owner’s house. Sadly, they resorted to physically disciplining her, which led to the pup biting her owner.
Following the altercation, the previous owner abandoned the dog in a dumpster, where she was eventually found and rescued by Cumberland County Animal Services. In the post, the shelter also noted that she had been diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection.
However, given Sydney’s history of biting, the shelter had to wait for an animal rescue to take her in. It also requested that an organization contact them soon. Since her holding period was about to expire, she would need to be euthanized. Dochas n Gra Animal Rescue stepped in right in time and saved the abandoned dog found in a dumpster from being put down.
The founder of Dochas n Gra Animal Rescue, Victoria McGonigal, told People that she understood why the shelter had to resort to euthanasia. She noted that the Cumberland County Animal Services facility is often overcrowded. Thus, she was ready to welcome Sydney when she discovered the agency was looking for a no-kill rescue.
The canine has been doing quite well and focusing on healing. After recovery, the rescue will start looking for a forever home for Sydney.
