Mother charged after son pulled from Myrtle Beach pool over July 4 weekend – MASHAHER

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A 43-year-old woman has been charged in connection with an incident involving her son at a Myrtle Beach swimming pool over the July 4 weekend.

Ana Luisa Beccerra-Lira faces one count of unlawfully placing a child at risk. Bond information was not publicly available.

Police said it happened Friday at the Caribbean Resort at 3000 N. Ocean Blvd. Video surveillance showed the victim and his mother in the pool area. Beccerra-Lira takes pictures of the child in a shallow hot tub and then walks away, according to authorities.

A report describes the incident as a “drowning.” Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard told News13 on Wednesday she had no information about a death related to the incident.

Beccerra-Lira then sits in a lounge chair out of sight of the child, who exited the hot tub and jumped into a swimming pool five feet deep. Officials said the child was submerged for six minutes before being pulled out and given CPR.

“The defendant was unaware of the victim’s location or that he had been pulled from the pool and CPR administered,” a police report says.

The child’s condition was not immediately known.
