Jalen Brunson was already quite beloved in New York, but on Friday that increased tenfold when he signed a four-year, $156 million contract extension with the Knicks – a move that gives the organization the financial flexibility to build a championship-caliber roster around him over the next few seasons.
Had Brunson waited until after next season to become a free agent, he could have signed for a maximum five years, $270 million, but opted for less money for that flexibility.
