Fire crews rescue 20-year-old horse from bog in Brecon | UK News – MASHAHER

Fire crews have rescued a horse in a two-hour operation after it got stuck in a bog in Brecon, Powys.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to a report that a horse had become stuck in a boggy patch of field at 12pm on Sunday.

The 20-year-old animal, which measured about 17 hands (1.7m), was stuck in around four feet of mud.

The fire service’s Pontardawe-based animal rescue team put together a rescue plan, assisted by Brecon station’s fire crew.

Suction meant one of the horse’s rear legs was stuck in the mud and it had become exhausted in its attempts to free itself.

The horse was rescued with the use of salvage sheets, a slide mat, strops and shovels.

Once rescued, the horse was then put into the care of its owner and vets who were also at the scene.
