Police body cam footage captured far-right Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) blaming alleged issues with her car’s transmission after she was pulled over for speeding in Vail Pass, Colorado, in May.
“I was messing with my gears and I know I ended up going, like, way too fast,” Boebert explained to an officer in a Colorado State Patrol video that was obtained and shared online by Fox 31 Denver.
The officer told Boebert, whose driving has been investigated before, that she “hit 90 for a second, but you were on the brakes pretty quick.”
Boebert was ticketed for driving at 84mph in a 65mph zone.
She didn’t pay the $174.50 fine within the 20-day deadline but later paid it after being scheduled to attend court, reported Westword.
Boebert last month won the Republican primary election in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, having left Colorado’s 3rd District following an eye-wateringly close contest in 2022 against Democrat Adam Frisch.
